"Dave Camarillo has created a hybrid with his judo, his jiu-jitsu, and all adapted for mma…"

"[he is] one of the very best brazilian jiu-jitsu instructors in the world"

-Joe Rogan, UFC Commentator
"After a one hour private lesson with David Camarillo, my perspective on jiu jitsu and what it means to master this art have been challenged. His technique is exceptional, and his principles and strategy to employ it are nothing short of revolutionary. Perhaps even more rare is Mr. Camarillo's ability to analyze a student's game, determine the vital weaknesses, and convey the proper knowledge to make immediate, crucial improvements. I am once again excited to get on the mat and develop a deeper understanding of what I thought I already knew. I have taken private lessons from and attended classes taught by the very best that brazilian jiu jitsu has to offer, including Rickson Gracie, BJ Penn, Robert Drysdale, Marc Laimon, and Ryan Hall. Without question, David Camarillo's understanding of jiu jitsu, judo, and the submission grappling is among the very best in the world."

-Cody Wissenbach, Charles Gracie Black Belt
I am a blue belt with 1.8 years of total training originating from Roberto Maia and Boston Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I recently relocated back to California, and after visits to other academies, I learned that Dave Camarillo had opened up a new Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu headquarters in Pleasanton. I attended the grand opening at Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu & VIPMMA in the Fall of 2009, and received a free week of training pass from Dave and his friendly staff.

Having been "raised" at the longest running and largest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in New England, I was exposed to a certain degree of instruction, professionalism, and camaraderie. Not wanting to compromise my level of training, I was highly selective of the academy that I chose to attend next. Over the course of a fiscal year leading up to meeting Dave, I trained at two well-known academies in northern California on one-day drop-ins, but could not find what I was looking for.

After my week training under Dave and his staff, I became fully committed to joining Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu. Not all academies are created equal, and not every jiu jitsu environment is the same. Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu is not just an aggressive style of BJJ, but a comprehensive curriculum. Dave teaches most of the classes, and his instruction is intricate, his moves and transitions are high percentage, and his proctoring is creative and well refined. A new student at VIP MMA can expect to learn a system of jiu jitsu that is highly effective, be part of a team of athletes who are respectful and supportive, and have lots of fun. To summarize, Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu is at the forefront of the submission grappling world, and I would highly recommend anyone of any skill level or experience to come train with Dave Camarillo.

Sincerely,

-Derek Shaffer

1. What is Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu (GJJ)?

Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu is a Martial Arts system that uses the arts Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling and Kickboxing, combined, to maximize the ability of the student to defend themselves in stressful, chaotic confrontations.

2. What can Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu and your school do for me?We specialize in developing honorable citizens and Martial Artists who thrive on learning and teaching the knowledge they accrue during their training. Learning with Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu is a lot like taking courses at a University. In time the student will be ready for a career in the Martial Arts business.

3. Do you offer classes for kids and what age do you start them at?

Yes, kids can start training at the age of 5.

4. Do I need to be in shape for this?

GJJ is an anaerobic exercise. There is NO need to be in shape to start training today. One of the many benefits of our program is to help you get in shape.

5. Am I too old to train?

In GJJ, you are never too old to train.

6. Will I be expected to compete?

Competition is not for everyone. Although we will support GJJ students who strive to compete, but NO competing is not a requirement to excel in our program.

7. Do I need to have prior experience?

Absolutely NOT. Our introductory classes teach new students with no experience the fundamentals of GJJ.

8. Do you offer beginner level classes?

Yes, our fundamental classes are beginner level classes, offered Monday through Thursday, mornings and evenings. Review classes are also offered on Friday and Saturdays. Please see our class schedule.

11. What are some of the benefits of GJJ?

Self-Defense, Weight Loss, Camaraderie, Mental Exercise (A lot of strategy is involved), Confidence Builder

12. What’s the difference between GJJ and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu is taught with a focus in Self-Defense and Mixed Martial Arts competition. BJJ is taught using the rules that govern BJJ competition as a guide. The difference lies in Philosophy of Use.

13. What sort of equipment do I need for GJJ?

Training in GJJ requires a jiu-jitsu gi and a belt. Other protective gear can also be worn, such as headgear to protect the ears and a mouth piece.

14. Why train with a Gi?

The Gi (uniform) provides the student with the proper attire to be included in a traditional Martial Arts atmosphere. While grappling it also provides more friction, this slows down the training sessions increasing the need for technical application.

15. What does a typical class consist of?

A class consists of a quick warm-up followed by non-resistant technical drilling. This is followed by a 50/50 drill which controls the resistance level of the training session. This ensures a safe environment which supports maximizing your development.

16. Do you offer family discounts?

Yes, please call for family discounts.

17. What types of programs do you offer?

We offer GJJ for kids and adults as well as Muay Thai.

18. What is the cost of a membership?

Please call for rate information. Or email.
